What Is Cold Pressed Dog Food?
Cold-pressed dog food is made at lower temperatures, which helps preserve nutrients and support digestion
Cooked at less than 50℃
Instead of being cooked at extremely high temperatures and pressure (like most extruded kibble), cold pressed food is prepared at lower temperatures and then gently pressed into small pieces.
The result?
A food that’s easier to digest, retains more natural nutrients, and is kinder on sensitive stomachs
Cold Pressed
Made below 50°C which helps keep nutrients locked in. 100% natural ingredients
Better for them
Ideal for dogs with digestive intolerances, grain & gluten allergies or sensitive stomachs
Better For You
Great value per meal and helps them have smaller poos & less gas
Easily Digested
Traditional extruded kibble expands when exposed to liquid.
Cold pressed food behaves differently. It tends to gently break down rather than swell significantly. Many owners prefer this, especially for dogs with sensitive digestion.
Packed With Goodness. Easier To Digest
The Cold Pressed Difference:
We only use a low heat to make our food. It's pressed into shape. This gentle process alongside our complementary recipes mean Barney & Max is:
✔ Packed with goodness. Nutritionally dense, full of natural ingredients
✔ Aids digestion. Breaks down easily and aid steady energy release.
✔ Helps the immune system. Supports the reduction of allergies and the body's inflammation process
✔ Lifestyle benefits. Promotes well-being and general health. Supports healthy joints, aids exercise recovery and respiratory system
✔ Smaller Poos & Less 'Gas'! Yep you get some benefits too 😊
✔ Grain, gluten free & Prebiotic
✔ Helps maintain a healthy, shiny coat.
✔ Can be fed with raw. As both foods digest at the same speed
✔ Softer than traditional kibble. Can be mixed with water to soften into paste, for a soft diet or a lick mat treat
✔ Your money goes further. Less food weight needed per day v traditional kibble
✔ UK Made. In our specialist facility

The Scientific Evidence
We will never claim miracle effects, however what what the science does support is:
- High heat processing can alter proteins and nutrients
- Digestibility matters for gut health
- Quality protein is essential for canine wellbeing
- Gut health strongly influences immune function
A dog’s immune system is linked to the gut, according to research in veterinary immunology (Belkaid & Hand, 2014, Cell).
We Believe In Better
The food you give them is a way to show love. Every bag supports their health, happiness, and those small, perfect moments together.
More Benefits v Traditional Kibble
Poor quality traditional kibble can impact digestibility.
Most traditional dry dog food is made using a process called extrusion. This involves:
- Very high heat
- Steam pressure
- Rapid expansion
- Multiple heating stages
Research published in the journal Animals highlights that high heat processing can alter protein structure and reduce certain heat-sensitive nutrients in pet food (van Rooijen et al., 2014, Animals). Studies in animal nutrition have shown that excessive processing can affect protein digestibility (Camire et al., 1990, Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition).
Born In A Kitchen, Not A Boardroom
We started Barney & Max because we couldn’t find food good enough for our own dogs - so we made it ourselves. And decided to name the business after them too!
If Barney and Max like it, it goes in!
